Best Practices

Branding

Use the default implementation of Aviary's logo. Should you desperately need to change its location, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Don't make it smaller than the current default version. It must be visible, readable and understandable to the viewer.
  • It must be visible on all menu screens of the application (all the screens it's included in by default).
  • It must be less prominent than your own logo.
  • A third party logo should not appear anywhere in the interface to give the user the misrepresentation that the editor was created by another party.
  • In general, it's a good rule of thumb that if you plan to make changes to how our logo is displayed, you show it to us first.

Editor Integration

Find a nice way to integrate an edit button or call-to-action which makes sense for your app. Make it part of the user's workflow, unobtrusive (so that it's an option, not a required step), and seamless! Check out our partner gallery for inspiration.

Editor Customization

Make our editor fit into your app as seamlessly as possible.

  • Functionality: Choose the exact functionality that makes sense for your app. In addition to helping your reduce the app's overall size by excluding unnecessary code, it will make it easier for your users to find functions they actually do want in your app.
  • Colors: Please do customize the app's color scheme to match your own app as closely as possible.
  • Icons: You can make custom icons if you want for some extra polish, but ours will definitely be understandable to your users should you wish to leave the default set in place.
  • Languages: If your app serves a non-English locale, please contact us so we can provide you with a localized version best suited for your audience.

If you have any questions about further customization, you can always email us at api@aviary.com.

Adaptation

Our editor was made to be easy for anyone to use, but there are still a couple ways you can help your users navigate the new functionality in your app with a minimal learning curve.

  • Create a short video showing your app with Aviary installed. This will do wonders for driving user understanding of the new features.
  • Create a simple FAQ that answers questions on how to access the editor features. Add this to your existing help section.

Promotion

All done and ready to launch? What good is integrating our editor if your users don't know about it?

  • Let Aviary know about your upcoming release at least one week in advance so we can help create additional promotion for you on our end. It's our goal to drive as much traffic and usage to our partners as possible (hey, we all win!) so please help us help you.
  • Make a blog post to let your users know about the new functionality.
  • Send out a newsletter to all of your users.
  • Update any social networks your product has a following on with the news (i.e. Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr).
  • Update your feature list in your Android Marketplace listing! Some of our partners also include a pop-up explaining the new functionality which only appears the first time a user opens the app after updating.

Feedback

Post-launch, we want to hear your ideas to make our future releases even better!

  • Post feature suggestions from yourself (or collected from your users) here.
  • We'll try to set up some time to speak with you 30 days after launch to hear how things are going and how we can make your experience better.
