How much does it cost?
Our standard photo editor is completely free. The standard editor has very minimal Aviary branding. If you require a white label version of our product, you can pay an annual subscription ($25K/year) to remove the logo, though this option is typically used by agencies and large enterprises for very specific projects.
Why is it free?
We want to make the Aviary editor as available to consumers as possible, so we set out to create the most advanced photo editing platform in the market and offer it at no cost to developers. In addition to our standard photo editor, we also offer a premium photo editor for agencies and larger sites and apps. The premium editor unlocks unique capabilities for select partners and generates revenue for Aviary as well.
How do I partner with Aviary?
Any website or application that integrates Aviary’s web widget or mobile SDK enters a partnership with us. Assuming that your usage abides by our terms of service, this entitles you to use of our editor and technical support from our awesome, friendly developers during the integration process. We hope that you won’t need to use our support, because we made it as easy as possible to get up and running. Most of your questions can be answered just by reading our documentation. Please note: if you try to hack the code yourself, you become ineligible from any developer support.
How do I go about integrating the editor?
First, you’ll need to make an account with us and sign in.
- For web, you’ll need an API key and then you can customize the widget with our code generator.
- For mobile, you can download the SDK for your platform of choice and then refer to the documentation for your platform (iOS or Android) for customization options. You don’t need an API key for mobile.
What are your system compatibility requirements?
- Web: All modern browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, IE8+), as well as all mobile browsers that support HTML5.
- Android: Android 2.2+, but must be compiled using Android 4.0.
- iOS: iOS4.0+.
What customization options are available?
You can change a number of the colors in the editor to reflect the look and feel of your app. The specifics can be found in the documentation for each platform (web, iOS, or Android).
Can I remove or alter Aviary’s logo?
No. We don’t allow our logo or the information screen to be altered, hidden or removed unless you purchase the white label solution. The white label solution is available for an annual subscription $25K/year and allows you to remove the logo.
Can I customize any of the tools or content (i.e. add my own effects or stickers)?
Currently, we don’t offer support for custom content. If you're interested in hearing about this feature if/when it becomes available, please let us know - we'll keep you updated!
Can I bypass the editor and just launch directly into one specific tool?
As of right now, our web widget is the only platform that supports this type of quick launching. Instructions for this kind of implementation can be found in the documentation. This feature is coming soon for mobile.
Do you support localization?
Yes! We currently have translations for our editor in a number of languages: Catalan, Chinese (simplified / traditional), Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal, Brazil), Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Don’t see your language on the list? Get in touch with us.
Do you support high resolution output?
Yes. We offer high resolution output (up to 800x800px for web, and 3MP for mobile) free of charge. Original resolution output is available for select partners with our premium editor (that is, with no restrictions on the size of the edited photo). Original resolution output impacts performance and is not the recommended approach for most apps, so please contact us at partners@aviary.com if you’re interested in our premium editor.
Is there an SSL version of Aviary available?
There is! The SSL-compatible version of our editor is hosted here: https://dme0ih8comzn4.cloudfront.net/js/featherssl.js
Will my API key work across multiple domains?
API keys are not tied to individual domains, so you can use your key across as many sites as you need to.
Can I use your editor as a standalone app?
You sure can! For web, we have a Facebook app, which allows you to pull photos from your existing albums and edit them on the spot -- no need to leave your Facebook page. For Android, you can install our Android plugin, which can be launched from within any application with your phone’s built-in sharing options. The official Aviary iOS app is coming soon - keep an eye on our blog or twitter to get an update as soon as it’s available!
